Vietnam should seek every possible way to promote its marine advantages and potential as well as make the best use of investment sources to develop seaport infrastructure to meet future demands of growth and development. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai made this statement while attending the 7 th Congress of the Vietnam Sea Port Association (VPA), which opened in the northern city of Hai Phong on September 8.
The 7th Meeting of the Vietnam Seaports Association is scheduled to be held at Cong Doan Hotel in Do Son, Hai Phong city, hosted by Hai Phong port on September 8-9, 2010. Delegates attending the VPA meeting shall include leaders of 53 member ports and potential ports in the nation, representatives of the leadership of Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Department, Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), representatives of leaders of local authorities, friendly industrial associations and other relevant members in the maritime community.
Under the master plan of Vietnam"s seaport system has been approved by the Prime Minister, in which the Ba Ria - Vung Tau port system of the SouthEast seaport group (group 5) with Sao Mai - Ben Dinh port, Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area is considered as international gateway of the country. With the international scale, this port system can receive container vessels from eight to ten thousand tons advantageously. In addition, Phu My - My Xuan deep-water port is used for general goods, 8DWT container vessels and other specialized ports. Furthermore, there is other international port, which has been planned for 10,000GRT vessel (GRT - is the unit used to calculate port charges, pilotage fees) at Sao Mai - Ben Dinh area.
